Temperament Strengths and Weaknesses

In our attempts to walk you through temperament theory, we are wanting to show that we have strengths and weaknesses in our temperament.

Temperament strength is the area in which we function at a higher level in life. There are temperaments that can take charge and take control, other temperaments influence people very positively because of their social abilities, and there also are temperaments that excel in daily tasks. Each temperament has their strengths that allow society to function at all levels.

Temperament weakness, on the other hand, is the area in which we function at a lower level in life. This area is where we will most likely find our struggles and is what prohibits us from operating or moving through life in a healthy—godly manner.

Once the counselor identifies and understands a person’s temperament strengths and weaknesses, he/she can then show that person how to rise above weaknesses and utilize his/her strengths for an abundant life for the glory of God. We as counselors acknowledge that each person has free choice of will, and this is the part of us which decides how to address weaknesses and utilize his or her strengths on a daily basis to improve their lives.

Moving forward, God has promised us that He will complete a good work He’s began in us, as stated in Philippians 1:6 (NIV), “being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” This is a lifelong process which we believe the good works God is getting us to, is to use our strengths to the fullest and working consistently on our weaknesses. We also see this in 2 Corinthians 12:10 (NIV), “That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” And lastly in, Isaiah 40:29 (NIV), “He gives strength to the weary, and to him who lacks might He increases power.”

It is God’s desire to work in and through us, by making us strong, and giving us power…His power. So, identifying our temperament strengths/weaknesses, we can see what matters most in relationships, then we can do our part to mature in life.

In summary, working on our temperament strengths and weaknesses will allow us to function better as a person in all our relationships through life. God is doing His part as we must do ours.
